The American Red Cross is one of the nation’s most recognized humanitarian organizations, providing emergency assistance, disaster relief, lifesaving training, blood collection, and other critical services to communities across the country.

The Challenge

The American Red Cross wanted to breathe new life into several of its youth programs. While the organization already had an established illustration style, these programs needed more expressive, energetic creative that could better connect with younger audiences.

The challenge wasn’t simply finding someone who could illustrate. The Red Cross needed a creative expert who could quickly understand an established brand, work comfortably within its existing visual language, and find opportunities to evolve it without losing what made it recognizable.

That made finding the right fit especially important.

The Wripple Solution

Wripple made it easy for the American Red Cross to tap into specialized independent creative expertise for exactly what the project required. Through the Wripple platform, the team connected with an experienced illustrator and designer whose skills aligned with both the assignment and the brand.

Because the right expertise was in place from the start, the talent could jump in quickly, study the Red Cross’s existing illustrated assets, and begin building on that foundation.

The approach was to preserve what already worked while introducing more movement, personality, and expression. The existing illustration style was reverse-engineered into a more flexible system, giving characters a greater range of poses and expressions and adding the youthful energy the programs needed.

It was the kind of focused creative challenge where the right match made all the difference: the Red Cross had a clear vision, the talent brought the specialized skills to execute it, and Wripple brought the two together.

"The brand had a clear goal and open expectations and understood we were there to do what we do best creatively. Ultimately, those two factors came together to put something new in their tool belt that they could use as needed for years to come.” - Chad S., Illustrator/Designer

Results + Impact

By connecting the American Red Cross with the right specialized creative expertise, Wripple helped turn an existing illustration style into a more expressive and flexible system for its youth programs.

The resulting suite gave the organization fresh creative assets while also expanding what was possible within its established visual language—creating a foundation that could continue to be used and built upon over time.

Just as importantly, the project demonstrated the value of having the right talent available when a specific creative need arose. Instead of searching broadly for outside resources, the American Red Cross could turn to Wripple to quickly access proven independent expertise, find the right fit, and get the work moving.
